Who is this Stranger I Love? Common Challenges to Reconnecting With a Loved One After Deployment

Free Education Series for Families of Returning Service Members. The Home Base Family Education Series will give family members and friends of OIF and OEF service members a greater understanding of how combat related stresses challenge the process of re-integration to civilian life. Each session will have time so the audience can ask questions. 7/13/10, A Couple's Story of Reconnection - Ken and Cayenne Isaksen. Ken and Cayenne Isaksen will speak to the trials of living through a deployment and the process of moving from active duty to civilian life as a couple. Ken is a Marine, founder of OIF/OEF Veterans of MA and an Outreach Coordinator for the Home Base Program. Additional programs include: July 20, 2010, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - Sharon Sung, PhD. PTSD is a common condition among returning service members. We will describe the symptoms of deployment related stress reactions and discuss ways to help a loved one with PTSD. July 27, 2010, Substance Abuse and PTSD - Peg Harvey, PsyD. Often those with PTSD also develop substance abuse problems. We will discuss how the two affect each other, how to recognize when treatment is needed and how to help the individual seek appropriate care. August 2, 2010, Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD - Kaloyan Tanev, MD. Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and PTSD share many features. We will look at what consequences both of these conditions have, how to understand the people who have them, and what treatments are available. All sessions are from 6:00-7:30pm and are free of charge. Parking and light refreshments will be provided. Treating Explosive Kids: The Collaborative Problem Solving Approach

2010 Intensive Training Workshops For Educators and Clinicians.This summer Think:Kids and the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) are proud to offer intensive training workshops featuring Dr. Ablon and the rest of the Think:Kids staff on campus at MGH. These three-day intensive trainings are intended for mental health clinicians and educators who have some prior exposure but are interested in becoming more proficient in the innovative and evidence-based approach to understanding and helping children and adolescents with behavioral challenges described in the book, Treating Explosive Kids: The Collaborative Problem SolvingApproach. Prior Tier 1 completion is required for participation in Tier 2 training. Schedule: For both Tier 1 and Tier 2, Day 1: 1:00-4:30 (registration will open at 12:15), Day 2 and Day 3: 8:30-4:30. Tuition: Individual Rate: $595/person. Group Rate (three or more): $500/person. No cancellations will be accepted after May1st, 2010. Substitutions are permitted. Strengthening Families Preventing Child Abuse Training Workshop

The Children's Trust Fund is pleased to announce its calendar of free trainings for family support professionals. These trainings will be held May through October at locations across the state with the focus on developing and enhancing the skills of family support professionals at all levels In these difficult financial times, training dollars may be tight. But the need for quality professional development opportunities remains an important priority. The Children's Trust Fund is collaborating with a wide range of generous community partners to offer these trainings free of charge! Along with family support professionals, these workshops will be of strong interest to professionals in the fields of early education and care, early intervention, education, child welfare, health, and other social services arenas.
